The Concept
Some years ago when we lived in New York City I wrote a blog on this site called A New Yorker Now (it's still here, just toggle up from this one). We stopped being New Yorkers for family reasons in late 2013 and moved to Midlothian, VA, just outside of the capital Richmond (or, as it is everywhere called here, RVA). We decamped because both our daughters and our five grandkids had settled here. We have been here in a neighborhood of mostly Republicans ever since. To say NYC and Midlothian are different beasts understates the case. (And, as an aside, looking back if some future voice had told me when I graduated from University of California, Berkeley that years later I would have lived longer in Virginia than any other place in my life, I would have said, "Wha...??" or, more likely, something more pungent. But that is what has happened and I am content with it.) Anyway, NYC and Midlothian both have their own quirks and charms. (What place doesn't?) The idea here then is to observe and write about some of them. Observation only, for the last thing needed these days is another opinion filled blog cluttering the web. I hope it will be fun.
